Autoimmune Hepatitis Treatment (Cont.)

Other Treatments for Autoimmune Hepatitis

People who do not respond to standard immune therapy -- or who have severe side effects to these medications -- may benefit from other immunosuppressive agents such as:

  • Mycophenolate (CellCept®)
  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Tacrolimus (Prograf®, Protopic®).

People who progress to end stage liver disease (liver failure) and/or cirrhosis may need a liver transplant. Liver transplantation has a one-year survival rate of 90 percent and a five-year survival rate of 70 percent to 80 percent.
