Is Autoimmune Hepatitis Contagious?

Some people may wonder, "Is
autoimmune hepatitis contagious?" The answer is no. However, while it is known that autoimmune hepatitis is not contagious, researchers are not sure exactly what causes the disease. Most researchers believe that a genetic factor may predispose some people to autoimmune diseases. About 70 percent of those with autoimmune hepatitis are women; most are between the ages of 15 and 40.

Researchers also speculate that certain bacteria, viruses, toxins, and drugs trigger an autoimmune response in people who are genetically susceptible to developing an autoimmune disorder.
