How Long Do Hepatitis E Symptoms Last?
Hepatitis E symptoms are usually mild and last a couple of weeks. Occasionally however, symptoms can be more severe. Severe symptoms are more common during pregnancy, especially during the
third trimester.
The overall rate of death from a hepatitis E infection is 0.5 percent to 4 percent. Loss of life in pregnant women has been reported in as many as 25 percent of cases. This most often occurs from a complication known as fulminant hepatitis, a severe condition that results in liver failure.
