Peginterferon Alfa-2a Information

A healthcare provider may prescribe peginterferon alfa-2a (Pegasys®) to treat chronic hepatitis C infections in adults and children as young as five years old. This medicine is also licensed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults age 18 and older. It works by activating the body's response to viruses.
 
Peginterferon alfa-2a comes in the form of an injection that is given once a week for 24 to 48 weeks. It is given just under the skin (subcutaneously).
