Hepatitis Home > Sofosbuvir Drug Information

Available by prescription only, sofosbuvir (SovaldiTM) is approved to treat chronic hepatitis C in people age 18 and older. It is used in combination with other hepatitis C medications and works by interfering with the replication of the hepatitis C virus.
Sofosbuvir comes as a tablet that is taken once daily. There is only one standard dosage of sofosbuvir; however, the length of treatment can vary between 12 weeks and 48 weeks, depending on the type of hepatitis C virus you have, which medications you are taking, and various other factors.
If your healthcare provider recommends treatment with sofosbuvir, he or she will need information on your medical history and any other drugs, vitamins, or supplements you are using. You should also talk to your healthcare provider before starting this medicine if you are pregnant or have any allergies.
