Sofosbuvir Side Effects
Sofosbuvir has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking sofosbuvir plus ribavirin (and sometimes peginterferon alfa) were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people given a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients).
In these studies, the most common side effects of sofosbuvir (combined with ribavirin and sometimes peginterferon alfa) included:
- Fatigue -- in up to 59 percent of people
- Headache -- up to 36 percent
- Nausea -- up to 34 percent
- Itching -- up to 27 percent
- Insomnia -- up to 25 percent
- Anemia -- up to 21 percent
- General weakness -- up to 21 percent.
You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.
Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any adverse reactions while using the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of sofosbuvir, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
