Telaprevir Hep C Drug

A healthcare provider may prescribe telaprevir (INCIVEK®) in combination with other medications to treat chronic hepatitis C (hep C). Belonging to a group of drugs called protease inhibitors, telaprevir works by blocking the action of protease enzymes in the body. The hepatitis C virus needs these enzymes to replicate itself (reproduce). By blocking these enzymes, telaprevir prevents the hep C virus from multiplying.

This medication is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing this drug. Possible side effects may include fatigue, diarrhea, and nausea.
